Obituary
The Late Mr. W. E. Paget.
A correspondent writes :- In Edmund Paget, whose funeral took place at Sutton Bonington on Saturday. Leicestershire has lost not only a great sportsman, but one whose heart and soul were in all the duties and responsibilities of a country gentleman. As joint master tor the last ten years. he devoted himself untiringly to making the Quorn hounds worthy of the glorious country over which they hunt. And their success at Peterborough in 1926 was in no small measure due to his skill and patience. Deeply interested in hound work, hunting meant something much more to him than a mere gallop over fences, and though a fine horseman his thoughts never turned to personal achievement. A keen agriculturist, his life was bound up with the farmers over whose land he hunted. And he shared with them by personal experience the many difficulties with which the Oharnwood Forest farmer has to contend. He will be sorely missed by a wide circle of friends, and more especially by those of us who have had the good fortune to ride with him over the hills of the forest and in the valley of the Soar.

Mr. W. E. Paget, who had been joint Master of the Quorn Hunt wvith Major Burnaby since 1919, was suddenly taken ill and fell from his horse during a run with the Quorn in the Woodland country near Loughborough yesterday. He died alnost immediately. Among the witnesses of his death were his son, Mr. Peter Paget, his daughter, Miss Joan Paget, and his sister, Miss Muriel Paget. Hunting was stopped, and the body was taken to Loughborough in a motor-ambulance.

At the time of the occurrence hounds were near Groby Pool. The meet was at Ratby.

Mr. Paget lived at Nanpantan Hall, near Loughborough, and was a big landowner in the district.

William Edmund Paget was born on June 30, 1879, the eldest son of Mr. William Byerley Paget, D.L., J.P., of Southfleld, Loughborough, who was the head of a branch of the old Leicester family of Paget of lbstock, Humberstome, and Oxcendon. He went to Winchester in 1893 and took his degree from Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1901. He formerly held a commission in the Leicestershire Yeomanry.
