Batty - Roy. - On the 11th Sept., at Manor House, Chorleywood, Herts., Violet, beloved wife of James H. Batty and daughter of the late Sir George E. Paget, K.C.B., F.R.S., Reg. Prof. Med. Univ. of Cambridge. Cremation at Golders Green, with service at 11.30 a.m., on the 16th Sept. Memorial service, Chorleywood Parish Church, Wednesday, 17th Sept., 3.15 p.m.. No mourning, no flowers, by her special request. She desired to send cordial greetings to all friends.

Violet was the twin sister of Rose Elizabeth (Thomson).

......But Mary's closest woman friend in Cambridge was Violet Paget Roy. Violet was the daughter of the famous physician and friend of George Kingsley, Sir George Paget, and she was married to a Professor of Pathology at Cambridge. The bond between the two women was only strengthened after Violet was widowed while still young and childless.....Violet was one of the few people Mary depended upon, and from whom she was willing and able to receive help, and even at time consolation.......

Among the veterans of West Africa whom Mary met and pumped for information was a young man named James Henly Batty, a Gold Coast trader who, some years after Mary introduced them, became the second husband of Mary's close friend Violet Paget Roy
