Wife of Nicholas Pitts, Gentleman – painted at South Allington House in the parish of Chivelstone near Kingsbridge. South Allington House is now a reception centre – the house was built on the remains of an older house about 1800 and enlarged and refurbished in 1839-40.

Inscribed on verso “Portrait of Elizabeth Prettejohn Pitts, South Allington – aged 30 – Painted September 1842 — By I. Ponsford”

The painting is privately owned and is in Busselton, Western Australia.
