Notes:

George Leigh Paget, the elder son of Sir George Ernest Paget, met a tragic end at the age of 29 when serving as a Captain in the Rifle Brigade in the South African War. He died of wounds received at Vlakfontein, Transvaal on October 10th 1900 and there is a window and cross in his memory in St Michael's church. Miss Ellen Gaskin remembered him riding up to her cottage door accompanied by his sister, and described him as "a fine young man".

Died of wounds at Kaapmuiden. 9th October 1900. Aged 29. Eldest son of Sir George Ernest Paget, of Sutton Bonington, Loughborough (chairman of the Midland Railway Company). Born July 1871. Rifle Brigade Nov. 1891. According to other sources he was wounded 8th Oct. 1900 at Vlakfontein when a train was ambushed; he was buried at Standerton.

Paget, Captain George Leigh, 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade

Died October 9th, 1900, from the severe wound he received in the engagement at Kaapmuiden. He was the eldest son of Sir George Ernest Paget, of Sutton Bonnington, Loughborough, chairman of the Midland Railway Company. Captain Paget was born in July 1871, educated at Harrow, and entered the Rifle Brigade November 1891, being promoted Lieutenant December 1893, and Captain June 1898. He served with the Natal Field Force from the commencement of the war, and was present at the battle of Colenso and all the subsequent fighting prior to the Relief of Ladysmith, and afterwards took part in the advance into the Transvaal.
