Admiral Lord Sir Clarence Edward Paget was born on 17 June 1811. He was the son of Field Marshal Sir Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey and Lady Charlotte Cadogan. He married Martha Stuart Otway, daughter of Admiral Sir Robert Waller Otway, 1st Bt., on 7 April 1852. He died on 22 March 1895 at age 83. Admiral Lord Sir Clarence Edward Paget held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Sandwich between 1847 and 1852. He gained the rank of Admiral in the service of the Royal Navy. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Sandwich between 1857 and 1876. He held the office of Secretary of the Admiralty between 1859 and 1866. He was Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean between 1866 and 1870. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.). He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.).

Admiral the Right Hon. Lord Clarence Edward Paget, who died at Brighton on Friday, was the son of the first Marquis of Anglesey by his second wife, daughter of the first Earl Cadogan. He was born in 1811, was educated at Westminster and entered the Royal Navy in 1827. He was a midshipman on board the Asia at the battle of Navarino, and received the Navarino medal. He was captain of the Princess Royal, 91 guns, in the expedition to the Baltic in 1854, and during the blockade and bombardment of Sebastopol in 1855. and took part is the expedition to Kertch, and Yenikalé (Baltic, Crimean, and Turkish medals, Sebastopol clasp); fourth class of the Medjidie 1858. He attained flag rank in 1858 and was made a rear-admiral of the red in 1863, vice-admiral in 1865, admiral in April, 1870, and was placed on the retired list of that rank in 1876. From 1859 to 1866 he was Secretary to the Admiralty in Lord Palmerston's second Administration and from April 28, 1866, to April 28, 1869, was Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean. He was made a Companion of the Bath in February 1856, a Knight Commander in June, 1869, and a Knight Grand Cross is May, 1886. He was a Privy Councillor. In August,1847, he was returned to Parliament as one of the members in the Liberal interest for Sandwich, but did not present himself for re-election in July, 1962. He was, however, re-elected for that borough in March, 1857, and resigned his seat; on taking the command of the Mediterranean Squadron.
