1851 Census: It was recorded that Lewis (aged 10 months) was living with his parents at Sandford Town in Devon with his parents.
1861 Census: Lewis (aged 10) was living in Sandford village at home with his brothers.
In 1865 Lewis William Wright went to London for the first time, aged 15.
In 1871, at the time of the Census collection, Lewis (aged 20) was still living in Sandford and was described as a (black) smith.
In 1881 Lewis and Mary Martha were at 2 High Street, Crediton. He wan recorded as a agricultural implement maker and seemed to be looking after the Crediton branch of the business which was advertised in some directories. Kelly's directory of 1889 shows Lewis William Wright as an implement manufacturer, but alongside James Wright - iron founder, West of England iron works, and also there is an entry for R Wright and sons, (established over half a century) machinists and agricultural implement manufacturers agents for all the leading makers, Britannia Iron works, & at New Buildings!
The 1891 Census recorded that Lewis was back in Sandford Village. He was again described as an agricultural implement maker.
In 1894 Lewis received the third highest vote in the first election of the Parish Council at Sandford. As well as being a Parish Councillor he was on the Board of Sandford Charity Trustees.
In the 1901 Census the West of England Ironworks seems to be next to the Britannia Ironworks workshop, both adjacent to the Rose and Crown.
In Kellys 1910 Directory Mary Martha Wright was listed as blacksmith in Sandford.
Kellys for 1914 shows Mrs Mary Martha Wright as Blacksmith. In 1912-1918 Lewis is registered as a voter at the Village of Sandford, joined on the List by Mary Martha in 1918.
Lewis married Mary Martha Berry on 1 Aug 1877 in Crediton. (Mary Martha Berry was born on 18 Feb 1851 in High Street, Crediton, died on 2 Nov 1939 in Sandford, Devon and was buried on 7 Nov 1939 in Sandford, Devon.)
