Nicholas Samuel Pitts
- Born: 23 Nov 1884, Stokenham, Devon
- Marriage: Emma Kathleen Wright on 23 Sep 1911 in Sandford, Devon
- Died: 10 May 1948, Crediton, Devon at age 63
The birth was registered in the first quarter of 1885.
1891 census: Nicholas (aged 6) was living at Muckwell Farm. He was still recorded there in the 1901 census when he was 16 years old.
Witnesses at the marriage of Nicholas and Emma were Fred Pickett, Nellie Wright and Lewis Wright.
Nicholas died at 13 East Street of 1a Auricular Fibrillation, b Myocardial Degeneration, 2 Ventral Hernia.
Nicholas was at Higher Town Farm, Lapford at the time of his marriage to Emma, though the Voters List for that period shows the previous tenant there (obviously it was out of date). They were still there in the 1918 Voters List. By 1919 Samuel Down was there. About that time they probably went to Morchard Bishop. This was before they moved to Gollick Park. The Pitts family joined the Coles at Gollic Park, Clayhidon in April 1923. Laurie Pitts, Sadie and Leslie Cole all joined the school there in April 1923. In 1935 Nicholas, Emma K and Lewis Laurence were at Turningways Morchard Bishop.December 1938, based on parish notes at Devon Record Office. In 1939 Nicholas, Emma K and Sadie were registered in the Voters List at Alma Cottage, Morchard Bishop. By December 1939 they were at Redhill, which may be the location of Alma Cottage. It was at Redhill that a disastrous fire in December 1939 destroyed all the possessions of Grandfather, Grandmother, Laurie and Mother. In the early 40's they were at 8 Council Houses, Morchard Bishop - probably where they were rehoused after the fire. By 1943-44 they were at East Street Crediton.
Nicholas married Emma Kathleen Wright, daughter of Lewis William Wright and Mary Martha Berry, on 23 Sep 1911 in Sandford, Devon. (Emma Kathleen Wright was born on 5 Apr 1878 in Sandford, Devon and died on 21 May 1954 in Exmouth, Devon.)
